Night Routine Can Be Helpful

For some parents, it is every night at bed time, a nightmare. Stories for children, whine, kick, scream and fight attempts to go to bed. Much of this tragedy can be avoided if parents are willing to create a tough routine for their children. Children feel more secure when it is common for this day. You know what to expect, and the lack of surprises help them go easily negotiate the tasks to be fulfilled, or work in the prospect of going to bed.
For parents, even if it may be difficult to determine whether the router is available, the nights a lot easier.

First, the TV goes off at a certain time every night. If possible to do so early enough for you any time you need for normal night, but in an era of television broadcasts have ended. In this way, children learn that at the end of their special show, it's time to go to bed.

The following routine would have the children clean TV now, one of the rooms of the house. In this case, clean means just sat up and putting away toys. You can do this as a family, adults and children. Children are to bring together all the responsibilities on the field. A good rule is that games are not on the floor during the night and blew himself took the cleaning fairy. This keeps the children highly motivated to save games. Of course, parents should be prepared to act on threats, and if you leave toys on the floor, a place for themselves, can be found in a box in your closet, if not the children, which apply for a Day or two, then play part for the night.

The legislation calls for the immediate creation of a Healthcare Politburo, which will oversee the national healthcare system and meet in secret once a month inside a windowless concrete building shaped like Vladimir Lenin’s head. The legislation stipulates that members of the Healthcare Politburo must be either homosexual communists or Barbra Streisand. Members will be chosen by Mwai Obama, the president’s 23-year-old Muslim half-brother who deals drugs from the back of an abortion clinic in Nairobi.

Every year on Karl Marx’s birthday, Americans will be required to attend a fitness conference at the Healthcare Politburo’s headquarters in Caracas, Venezuela, where teams of rappers will curse white people and smoke crack while administering physical examinations. Americans Pay The Most Cellphone Service of $635.85 to Other Countries

According to a survey done by dslreports Americans pay $635.85 on cell phone service, compared to $131.44 per year in the Netherlands or $137.94 per year in Sweden.

The study highlights how prices have decreased 21% for low-usage (360 calls per year, 390 SMS, 8 MMS) consumers, 28% for medium usage, and by about 32% for high usage (1680 calls per year, 660 SMS)consumers. Still, a medium use customer in the United States (780 calls per year, 600 SMS, and eight MMS) pays $53 a month for service, compared to $11 a month for service in the Netherlands.

Are all of those high cellphone service payment it America bad indicator? The more business to do the more we have to pay so there is no embarrassment with this high bill. I guess the payment will increase more than this next year since now Sprint is trying to increase its wireless network around the country.

New battery could change world, one house at a time

In a modest building on the west side of Salt Lake City, a team of specialists in advanced materials and electrochemistry has produced what could be the single most important breakthrough for clean, alternative energy since Socrates first noted solar heating 2,400 years ago.

The prize is the culmination of 10 years of research and testing -- a new generation of deep-storage battery that's small enough, and safe enough, to sit in your basement and power your home.

It promises to nudge the world to a paradigm shift as big as the switch from centralized mainframe computers in the 1980s to personal laptops. But this time the mainframe is America's antiquated electrical grid; and the switch is to personal power stations in millions of individual homes.

Former energy secretary Bill Richardson once disparaged the U.S. electrical grid as "third world," and he was painfully close to the mark. It's an inefficient, aging relic of a century-old approach to energy and a weak link in national security in an age of terrorism.

Taking a load off the grid through electricity production and storage at home would extend the life of the system and avoid the expenditure of tens, or even hundreds, of billions to make it "smart."

The battery breakthrough comes from a Salt Lake company called Ceramatec, the R&D arm of CoorsTek, a world leader in advanced materials and electrochemical devices. It promises to reduce dependence on the dinosaur by hooking up with the latest generation of personalized power plants that draw from the sun.

Solar energy has been around, of course, but it's been prohibitively expensive. Now the cost is tumbling, driven by new thin-film chemistry and manufacturing techniques. Leaders in the field include companies like Arizona-based First Solar, which can paint solar cells onto glass; and Konarka, an upstart that purchased a defunct Polaroid film factory in New Bedford, Mass., and now plans to print cells onto rolls of flexible plastic.

The convergence of these two key technologies -- solar power and deep-storage batteries -- has profound implications for oil-strapped America.

"These batteries switch the whole dialogue to renewables," said Daniel Nocera, a noted chemist and professor of energy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who sits on Ceramatec's science advisory board. "They will turn us away from dumb technology, circa 1900 -- a 110-year-old approach -- and turn us forward."

Why not just upgrade to a so-called "smart grid" as President Obama has proposed in his economic stimulus package? There are complications, Nocera said.

"First you have to rebuild the grid because the one we have now is a creaky machine from the 1920s, and we keep trying to retrofit it," he said. "Then you're going to have computers trying to manage the energy, which brings up issues like security. You have to make it really secure so you don't have people hacking into things. And then politics. Just wait until you try to run power lines through someone's backyard.

"I can't imagine anything more secure than generating my own energy with the sun at my house, and now I'll have a way to store it. It's the ultimate in security, and the ultimate in control."

With small-scale electrical generation taking place at millions of individual homes -- as opposed to today's large-scale power generation from a handful of giant power plants -- there would be less worry about what's called "point failure" on the grid. That's when a single component gets knocked out and shuts off power to a whole region. California-style rolling blackouts would be history.

The threat of terrorism has heightened the worry. But wide distribution of batteries in homes would virtually eliminate it.

Moreover, the necessary plan "upgrades" will undoubtedly cost you more in premiums.

3. The Umpire Is Also the First Baseman: The main argument for a "public option" is that it would increase competition. However, if the federal government creates a health care plan that it controls and also sets the rules for the private plans, there is little doubt that Washington would put its private sector "competitors" out of business sooner or later.

4. The Fed Picks Your Treatment: President Obama said: "They're going to have to give up paying for things that don't make them healthier. ... If there's a blue pill and a red pill, and the blue pill is half the price of the red pill and works just as well, why not pay half for the thing that's going to make you well." Does that sound like a government that will stay out of your health care decisions?

5. Individual Mandate Means Less Liberty and More Taxes: Although he once opposed the idea, President Obama is now open to the imposition of an individual mandate that would require all Americans to have federally approved health insurance. This unprecedented federal directive not only takes away your individual freedom but could cost you as well. Lawmakers are considering a penalty or tax for those who don't buy government-approved health plans.

6. Higher Taxes Than Europe Hurt Small Businesses: A proposed surtax on the wealthy will actually hit hundreds of thousands of small business ownerswho are dealing with a recession. If it is enacted, America's top earners and job creators will carry a larger overall tax burden than France, Italy, Germany, Japan, etc., with a total average tax rate greater than 52%. Is that the right recipe for jobs and wage growth?

7. Who Makes Medical Decisions? What is the right medical treatment and should bureaucrats determine what Americans can or cannot have? While the House and Senate language is vague, amendments offered in House and Senate committees to block government rationing of care were routinely defeated. Cost or a federal health board could be the deciding factors. President Obama himself admitted this when he said, "Maybe you're better off not having the surgery, but taking the painkiller," when asked about an elderly woman who needed a pacemaker.

8. Taxpayer-Funded Abortions?Nineteen Democrats recently asked the President to not sign any bill that doesn't explicitly exclude "abortion from the scope of any government-defined or subsidized health insurance plan" or any bill that allows a federal health board to "recommend abortion services be included under covered benefits or as part of a benefits package." Currently, these provisions do not exist.

9. It's Not Paid For: The CBO says the current House plan would increase the deficit by $239 billion over 10 years. And that number will likely continue to rise over the long term. Similar entitlement bills in the past, including Medicare, have scored much lower than their actual eventual cost.

10. Rushing It, Not Reading It: We've been down this road before--with the failed stimulus package. Back then, we also heard that we were in a crisis and that we needed to pass a 1,000-plus-page bill in a few hours--without reading it--or we would have 8% unemployment. Well, we know what happened. Now, one Congressman has even said it's pointless to read one of the reform bills without two days and two lawyers to make sense of it. Deception is the only reason to rush through a bill nobody truly understands.

SEOUL — North Korea said Monday it was open to new discussions to help resolve the dispute over its nuclear weapons program, although the North emphasized that it was not interested in resuming six-nation talks on the impasse.

The comment from the North Korean Foreign Ministry was seen as an apparent willingness to engage the United States in bilateral talks, a longstanding North Korean preference.

Over the weekend, Sin Son-ho, the top North Korean diplomat at the United Nations, said his government is “not against a dialogue” with Washington. And the ministry’s statement on Monday alluded to bilateral talks as “a specific and reserved form of dialogue that can address the current situation.”

North Korea’s suggestion brightens the prospects for dialogue between Pyongyang and Washington after months of increasing tensions triggered by a long-range rocket launch by North Korea in April; its second nuclear test, in May; and a series of test-firings of short-range missiles.

But a fundamental rift remains: The Obama administration has indicated it would be willing to engage the North in direct talks only if the North agrees to return to the six-nation talks that involve the United States, China, Japan, Russia and the two Koreas.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton reiterated over the weekend that Washington wants the North’s nuclear problem to be handled and resolved through six-party talks.

On Monday the North Korean Foreign Ministry said the multilateral talks were finished when the other five countries agreed to sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council following the May 25 nuclear test. The North said the penalties violated its “sovereignty.”

Before North Korea reluctantly joined the six-party talks in 2003, it had maintained that the nuclear standoff was a matter solely between Pyongyang and Washington — a position that a senior North Korean envoy revived during an Asian security conference in Thailand last week.

North Korea said Monday the six-nation talks aimed to “disarm and incapacitate” it.

“What they want is to make us survive on bread crumbs tossed by them,” it said. “It would be foolish and absurd of them if they expect that we will join or leave a meeting at their bidding.”

NASA Student Airborne Research Program Takes Flight

EDWARDS, Calif., July 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Twenty-nine undergraduate and graduate students are participating in a six-week NASA Airborne Science field experience designed to immerse them in NASA's Earth Science research. The students represent 26 colleges and universities across the U.S. and nine foreign countries.

NASA's Student Airborne Research program runs from July 6 to Aug. 14 in California. The program began with lectures from university faculty members, research institutions and NASA scientists at the University of California, Irvine. One of the speakers is Sherwood Rowland of the University of California, Irvine, a Nobel Laureate in chemistry, who is a long-time user of NASA's DC-8 airborne capabilities for his research on atmospheric chemistry.

Using the DC-8 flying laboratory based at NASA's Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale, Calif., the students will get a rare behind-the-scenes look at instrument integration, flight planning and payload testing that is the basis of every successful Earth Science airborne campaign carried out by NASA. These airborne research campaigns play a pivotal role in the calibration and validation of NASA's space-borne Earth observations, remote sensing measurements and the high-resolution imagery for Earth system science.

Divided into the investigative groups of atmospheric science, algal blooms and crop classification, students will have the opportunity to fly aboard one of two six-hour DC-8 flights departing from NASA's Palmdale facility. The aircraft will travel north over the San Joaquin Valley for an air-quality investigation, over the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta to observe vegetation, and south over Monterey Bay to research algae blooms.

The student program is one of NASA's tools for training future scientists for Earth Science missions that can assist with studies and the development and testing of new instruments and future satellite mission concepts. The program's goal is to stimulate interest in NASA's Earth Science research and aid in recruitment of the next generation of engineers and scientists. Through this and the agency's other college and university programs, NASA is developing critical skills and capabilities needed for the agency's engineering, scientific and technical missions.

The Student Airborne Research Program is managed through the National Suborbital Education and Research Center at the University of North Dakota, with funding and support from NASA's Airborne Science Program. People are ok with listening to something informative, but they won't read it if it's too long.

5. Don't use too many images. Use your best judgment here because there are different scenarios and a multitude of businesses, so sometimes images are necessary to illustrate your message. Just don't be excessive on the amount of images. Sometimes it's necessary to use a large number of images, but sometimes this could distract your visitors from receiving the message that you want to deliver. Finally, remember that there are still some people who use dial up. Although not a large number, every visitor is a potential customer, but if the site loads too slowly, they will go somewhere else. One more thing about images: If you do use images utilize the description of the image and the image name for SEO. Search engines will crawl your images as a sepearate item so give your image(s) a name that is related to the topic of your site/post. Nokia posts 66 pct fall in Q2 profits, shares drop by Associated Press

STOCKHOLM - The world's top cell phone maker, Nokia Corp., on Thursday said second-quarter earnings fell 66 percent as the global recession sapped demand. The company scrapped its target to gain market share this year and its stock sagged.

Net profit was euro380 million ($535 million), down from euro1.1 billion in the same period a year earlier. Sales tumbled 25 percent to euro9.91 billion.

Analysts polled by SME Direkt had forecast a profit of euro327 million and sales of euro10.1 billion. Nokia shares fell 11 percent to euro9.86 ($13.85) in Helsinki.

Nokia shipped 103 million mobile devices in the quarter, down 15 percent from a year earlier but slightly better than some analysts had expected. Meanwhile the average selling price of a Nokia handset fell to euro62 — from euro74 a year earlier.

"It almost feels like Nokia has been doing a great job at keeping shipments alive but has been forced to cut prices to keep volumes up," said Neil Mawston, a London-based telecoms analyst at Strategy Analytics.

The Finnish company, which sells about four in 10 mobile devices worldwide, dropped its target to increase market share this year, saying it expects its share of the mobile market to remain unchanged from 2008.

It also downgraded the outlook for its wireless network joint venture, Nokia Siemens Networks, expecting a moderate loss of market share in 2009. The company's earlier target was to keep its share of the network market constant compared to last year.

Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said the company performed well in a "tough quarter" and that demand appeared to be bottoming out after falling sharply in recent quarters.

He said Nokia is accelerating its transformation into a "solutions company" that offers not only cell phones, but services and applications as the handset, Internet and media industries converge.

"The mobile industry is undergoing its biggest change in its 20-year history," Kallasvuo told analysts in a conference call.

Highlights in the quarter included the first shipments of the N97 — Nokia's flagship smartphone — and the launch of the Ovi Store, the company's online shop for applications, ring tones and other content. Ovi Store is similar to Apple's "App Store" for the iPhone and Google's software marketplace for Android phones.

Nokia's market share in mobile devices climbed to 38 percent in the second quarter, from 37 percent in the previous three months, but was still down from 40 percent a year earlier.

Mobile phone sales have dropped off sharply in the economic slump. Global shipments fell 13 percent to 245 million units in the first quarter, the sharpest annual decline since the mobile phone industry started in the 1980s, according to research firm Strategy Analytics.

Sony Ericsson, the world's fifth largest cell phone maker, posted its fourth consecutive quarterly loss earlier Thursday.

Though market leader Nokia has weathered the crisis better than some smaller competitors, it has been forced to cut thousands of jobs because of falling demand and lower handset prices.

A household name in Asia and Europe, Nokia is a smaller player in the United States, where its smartphones face tough competition from Apple Inc. and Research in Motion Ltd., the makers of the iPhone and BlackBerry.

Nokia shipped only 3.2 million devices in North America in the second quarter, down nearly 30 percent from the same period last year.

Analysts say the company has been slow to catch on to U.S. trends such as clamshell phones and touchscreens, while failing to develop strong relationships with the top U.S. network operators.

Just Text - I've seen a lot of great blog headers that are simply text. Using typography to make your blog stand out is gutsy but can result in a beautiful header. Find a snazzy font - there are tons of free fonts available on the web to download - and use your favorite image editing program to create a cool graphic with your blog title.

Add some text effects to make it anything but generic. You can even make it look like it's 3D, shiny, or glowing. Try using different colors for certain letters, add a copy of the text flipped upside down to create a mirror effect, or create text using other images. There are lots of ways to get creative with text.

Photography - Some headers are nothing but a photo. A scenic landscape, a city skyline, or a row of cute babies smiling for the camera can make a memorable image for your blog readers.

How AIG Became Too Big to Fail

Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner had every reason to think he had seen all of AIG's dirty laundry. The government owned 80% of the company, and Geithner had just orchestrated AIG's most recent handout — its fourth, if you are keeping score, for $30 billion on March 2 — to prevent the teetering insurance giant from going over the cliff and taking the rest of the global financial system with it. AIG had already cost the taxpayers some $170 billion, mostly to repair the damage done by one of its units, AIG Financial Products (AIG FP), which last year alone piled up $40 billion in losses related to its dealings in complex mortgage bond derivatives.
Then Geithner's staff made the discovery that would infuriate nearly everyone in Washington. On March 10, the Secretary learned, 10 days after his staff first got wind of it, that AIG had paid out $165 million in retention bonuses to executives at the unit that compelled the U.S. to bail out the company in the first place. It took Geithner until 7:40 the next night to place what must have been a tense phone call to AIG's newish CEO, Ed Liddy. The bonuses were not tenable; they had to be canceled, he demanded. Liddy, a dollar-a-year man who took over the company after the bonuses had been promised, replied that AIG's lawyers had decided that the contracts could not be broken without even bigger costs to taxpayers. Geithner sent Treasury's lawyers searching for a way out, but they couldn't find one. (See 25 people to blame for the financial crisis.)

On the balance sheet of debacles caused by this economic crisis — the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), the stock-market swoon, the credit crunch and the ongoing global recession — $165 million is small change. But the revelations of the AIG bonuses, like nothing else, seemed to finally tip the mounting public furor over corporate malpractice into a full-scale rebellion. Yet Geithner, embarrassed for discovering the bonuses so late, plans to dock AIG that much out of the next $30 billion in bailout funding when it is delivered — which amounts to a mere 0.1% of the total AIG has received. Assorted Senators, from New York Democrat Chuck Schumer to Montana Democrat Max Baucus and Iowa Republican Chuck Grassley, have proposed a number of tax and legal schemes to snatch back the bonus bucks from AIG FP executives — 73 of whom got payouts of $1 million or more, according to New York State attorney general Andrew Cuomo. (Read "Treasury Learned of AIG Bonuses Earlier Than Claimed.")

With all the political theater and populist grandstanding, though, the bigger issue has been obscured. And that is, Just what is AIG doing with the $170 billion? Does the company's strategy, which is to wind down its exposure to toxic assets and sell some of its profitable insurance divisions to help pay off the government debt, stand a good chance of succeeding? And if it does, will the world avert financial Armageddon?

Those questions have taken on greater urgency, since it turns out that AIG has become the banking industry's ATM, essentially passing along $52 billion of TARP money to an array of U.S. and foreign financial institutions — from Goldman Sachs to Switzerland's UBS. Those firms were counterparties to the credit-default swaps (CDSs) that AIG FP sold at least through 2005, and the companies were collecting on the insurance-like derivatives. AIG paid out an additional $43.7 billion to many of the same banks, which were also customers of the securities-lending operation run out of AIG's insurance division. In this case, AIG managed to take a business specifically designed to be low risk, low return and amp it into another dicey venture — with taxpayers on the hook.

The outrage will pass, and when it does, we're going to have to focus on whether keeping AIG afloat is preventing a sharp recession from becoming a prolonged one. The reason AIG has cost taxpayers $170 billion — and the reason the Obama Administration seemed willing, at least at first, to hold its nose and accede to bonuses for the company's managers — is that it's too big to fail. It's an often heard phrase, but what does it really mean? (See the top 10 financial collapses of 2008.)

The idea is that in a global economy so tightly linked that problems in the U.S. real estate market can help bring down Icelandic banks and Asian manufacturers, AIG sits at some of the critical switch points. Its failure, so the fear goes, would set off chains of others, rattling around the globe in short order. Although some critics say the fear is overblown and the world economy could absorb the blow, no one seems particularly keen on testing that approach.

How We Got Here
AIG seems an unlikely candidate for the company that could bankrupt the planet. Founded 90 years ago in Shanghai, AIG moved its headquarters to New York City as the world headed toward war in 1939. After Maurice R. (Hank) Greenberg took over in 1967, AIG consolidated its global empire. By the time Greenberg was forced out in an accounting scandal 38 years later, AIG had become one of the world's biggest public companies, with sales of $113 billion in 2006 and 116,000 employees in 130 countries, from France to China.

AIG says it has written more than 81 million life-insurance policies, with a face value of $1.9 trillion. It covers roughly 180,000 small businesses and other corporate entities, which employ approximately 106 million people. That makes AIG America's largest life and health insurer; second largest in property and casualty. Through its aircraft-leasing subsidiary, AIG owns more than 950 airline jets. Just for good measure, AIG is a huge provider of insurance to U.S. municipalities, pension funds and other public and private bodies through guaranteed investment contracts and other products that protect participants in 401(k) plans. "We have no choice but to stabilize [it] or else risk enormous impact, not just in the financial system but on the whole U.S. economy," said Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke.

The risk is not in any one business but in the connections among them and in the industries in which they compete. As AIG has pointed out in its own analysis, "The extent and interconnectedness of AIG's business is far-reaching and encompasses customers across the globe ranging from governmental agencies, corporations and consumers to counterparties. A failure of AIG could create a chain reaction of enormous proportion." Among other effects, it could lead to mass redemptions of insurance policies, which would theoretically destabilize the industry; the withdrawal of $12 billion to $15 billion in U.S. consumer lending in a credit-short universe; and even damage airframe maker Boeing and jet-engine maker GE, since AIG's aircraft-leasing unit buys more jets than anyone else.

While AIG's holdings are diverse, nearly all its losses centered on AIG FP, which until March 2008 was led by its high-rolling president, Joseph Cassano, a tough-talking Brooklyn, N.Y., native who in the past eight years banked $280 million in cash compensation, or exactly $115 million more than the bonuses at the center of the current controversy. Cassano, who helped found the AIG FP unit in 1987, built his money machine not on anything fraudulent but on what's been described as regulatory arbitrage. As Bernanke explained recently, "AIG exploited a huge gap in the regulatory system. There was no oversight of the Financial Products division. This was a hedge fund, basically, that was attached to a large and stable insurance company."

How Important is the Tag List in a Blog?

The need for tags or labels is something that has its origins in our daily activities and in our way of living. We have to keep it organized if we want to find our stuff. And sometimes, when things evolve to a higher complexity, we are forced to create categories and labels so we can find what we want quickly. Blogs are just holders of our ideas and thoughts in the form of articles: having the ability to label them is crucial, especially in cases where there are many categories of discussion and the years pass and more and more articles are published. You have to be able to organize it further more then categories.

What are tags

Tags are labels. An article can be placed in one or more categories and can also receive tags so the users can have multiple choices of sorting the articles. These tags are very helpful because the categories are more general - tags can compensate this by further describing the subjects that can be a part of a certain category. You can assign how many tags you want to an article but try and stick to less then 5.

This number of 5 tags is my choice. You can do whatever you want and in some cases I also bend this rule. The reason for having maximum 5 tags is because I believe that tags should be descriptive and this means a tag has minimum 2 words. Google has a recommendation that says you should not have more then 100 links on a page.

This rule is often broken when we are talking about blogs. We should try and respect this rule because the consequence is simple: Google will not crawl some of your links and this will lead to less indexed pages then you should have. Usually a page on a blog contains the latest 10 articles or posts. Additionally you have categories, most used tags, the blogroll and few other links. All these links together with the tags that each article has can easily overcome the 100 link limit. So use it carefully. Just because you can assign how many tags you want to an article doesn't means that you can go over the top.

Why is important to a have a list of tags for your blog
Let me tell you what happens if you choose not to build a list of tags right at the beginning of your blogging days. Here are some issues that you'll have:

* most likely you'll add more and more tags to your blog and you'll end up with similar tags all over the place
* having similar tags will not only confuse the readers but could also lead to some overlooked articles (if you have few tags that basically mean the same thing then how do your readers would know?)
* you'll miss all the SEO benefits a list of tags can offer you

Developing a list of tags is very important. You should do it before you start blogging: just like keyword planning or developing a theme for your blog. Think to the categories your blog will have and how you can further describe those categories. Think that tags will help you somehow divide the categories in smaller portions and you will be able to sort your articles much better.

This is the thing a list of tags will do for you : will help you organize your articles much better and much more efficient. That is why you should create a tag list because otherwise you'll only create confusion for your readers and for yourself.

Use keywords in your tags

Besides the fact that tags can be used to sort out articles much better then using only categories you can use it to target specific keywords. That is why tags should have meaningful forms : do not use single words. Try and describe what you want to say and just like in the case of keywords try and create tags from 2 or 3 words that you wish to target.

You have to realize that Google will visit your page and will encounter those tags. If the text of a link is relevant to the target of the link then Google will consider that the link has value. So try and assign tags to articles that are really related. This relation is best if it can be established in terms of common keywords in the text link and the title of the article or at least some synonyms. The more content you'll have relevant to all of your tags the more you'll increase the chance of ranking well on Google for the keywords contained in those tags.

I don't know how many of us realize the importance of tags right at the beginning of blogging. Usually it happens somewhere on the road after we published few articles at which point we realize that we should try and maintain some consistency in how we name our tags. Sometimes it's to late and sometimes we just let it go and we try to improvise as we publish more and more articles.

The truth is that without some serious planning you won't be able to have a list of tags that will get you benefits and will also be a real help for you and your readers.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Some Democrats are increasingly concerned about President Obama's $787 billion financial fix for the ailing economy, and are demanding greater transparency on further spending.

With the White House seemingly comparing the nation's economy to a house on fire, some congressional Democrats are asking, where's the fire truck?

One New Hampshire congresswoman said as much to Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner on Capitol Hill recently.

"I said, hurry, please hurry, because people are waiting and they are hurting, and they need the help now," Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-New Hampshire, said.

She's one of a growing number of nervous Democrats on edge or at odds with some of the Obama's administration's plans on the economy. Some are taking aim at the president's budget proposals that would curb popular tax deductions for wealthier Americans.

"I don't think ultimately the criticism is surprising. That certainly happens and is all part of the process," said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.

As a nod to moderate concerns, Obama took steps to make his budget more transparent. He included items former President George W. Bush passed separately in recent years to obscure the true operating cost of the government, such as the money for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, an annual multibillion-dollar fix of the fees Medicare pays physicians and Alternative Minimum Tax relief for the middle class.

Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Indiana, who along with Nebraska Democrat Ben Nelson and Connecticut Independent Joe Lieberman is one of the so-called Gang of 15 -- a coalition of moderate Democratic senators -- says it's all about the messaging.

"Like getting health care costs under control is important to the economy and getting the deficit down," he said. "Sustainable sources of energy at reasonable prices is also important to the economy. Dealing with the financial crisis is obviously important to the economy."

Bayh added: "So what needs to be done is, Obama's got to move on all these fronts but also integrate them back to the same theme of always strengthening the economy, getting people to work, growing businesses, improving our standard of living." Rep. John Tanner, D-Tennessee, is a member of the "Blue Dog" group of 47 fiscally conservative Democrats in the House -- six of whom voted against Obama's stimulus plan. He said Obama at least is being honest about the dire condition of the economy.

"At least the budget that the Obama administration presented, even though it's huge and it's a huge deficit -- and that enables the other team to beat up on it -- the truth is that it's honest and truthful," he said.

Democratic media consultant Steve Murphy, who represents several moderate Democrats, said that Blue Dogs are all "deficit hawks," so they're "nervous about spending."

"They're against giving more money to the banks without any accountability, they want to zero in on wasteful spending and they strongly believe the shrinking deficit and eventual balanced budget was the underpinning of our economic success in the '90's," he said.

Murphy added that these Democrats do, however, realize that more money is going to be needed.

"So I expect them to be about greater accountability and fairness for the taxpayer. They won't join [GOP House Minority Whip Eric] Cantor's 'Hell No' chorus."

And that is something resonating with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who said top economists told her a second stimulus package may be necessary.

"You have to keep the door open to see how this goes," she said.

House Democrats, CNN has learned, heard that message in a meeting with top economists, who predicted the president's stimulus plan will fall short of saving or creating three to four million jobs, as he promised.

"Over the first two years about 2 1/2 million jobs saved and created," said economist Allen Sinai. "A little less than the administration and perhaps Speaker Pelosi has said ... the jobs created may be a little disappointing."

Sinai said that over time, the economy may produce the jobs president Obama promised, but that people should try to be patient.

But budget hawks in the party don't like the sound of that.

"I mean, if we were to take a vote this afternoon, the stimulus package would probably fail," said Rep. Earl Pomeroy, D-North Dakota. "If they want substantial, more public funds committed, they're going to have to go out there and explain precisely how this is going to work."

Shea-Porter said she's simply on the message she's getting at town meetings back home, a message that's also aimed at some in the media.

"It's terrifying people. Before, people were very optimistic and the leaders were optimistic. Then we hit a spell here where we're hearing a lot of media ... people who are frightening without necessarily giving both sides," she added.

For now, the White House says it has no plans for another stimulus, arguing its plan needs time to work.

New York Times To Sell Part of Its Headquarters

New York Times raises another $225M by selling headquarters, giving publisher bigger cushion

NEW YORK (AP) -- The New York Times Co. has sold most of its home office for $225 million, padding the newspaper publisher's financial cushion amid a sharp drop in revenue that has forced management to scrounge for more money.

The deal announced Monday covers 21 of the building's 52 floors. That space, about 750,000 square feet (69,676 sq. meters), became the Times' headquarters when the midtown Manhattan offices opened in 2007.

Under the terms of the sale to investment firm W.P. Carey & Co., the New York Times Co. will rent back the offices at a cost of $24 million this year, with subsequent increases spread through the 15-year lease. The company will have an option to buy back its interest in the space for $250 million in 10 years.

The office sale is the latest financial sacrifice that the Times company has made to ensure it has enough money to repay its debts. It also suspended its shareholder dividend to save about $133 million this year and secured a $250 million infusion from Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim by agreeing to pay an abnormally high interest rate of 14 percent in addition to giving him potentially valuable stock warrants.

Although management got the cash it wanted from the office sale, it probably was a difficult pill to swallow, said bond analyst Mike Simonton of Fitch Ratings.

"Forcing a real estate deal though at this inopportune time demonstrates management's resolve to get its balance sheet in order," Simonton said. "This improves their ability to control their own destiny."

The company will still own seven floors of the Manhattan building. Six of those floors already had been leased to another tenant.

Simonton and Gimme Credit analyst Dave Novosel believe the company should be able to repay about $300 million in debts coming due through 2010. The risk of default would have been much higher if the company hadn't raised more cash. Its total debt stood at $1.1 billion at the end of 2008.

Investors, though, remained skittish as the New York Times Co.'s shares fell 17 cents, or 4.2 percent, to $3.90. The company's stock has plunged by nearly 80 percent since 2007.

W.P. Carey shares rose 86 cents, 4.8 percent, to close at $18.88.

Like all newspaper publishers, the New York Times Co. has been staggered by an accelerating drop in ad revenue that began several years ago as more marketers shifted their spending from the print medium to the Internet, where the costs are lower and the audience is still growing as more readers get their news for free online. The 15-month-old recession has exacerbated the newspaper industry's misery.

The Times company and other publishers have been attracting more online readers as they pour more resources into their Web sites, but they aren't bringing in nearly enough revenue from the Internet to offset the erosion in their print product. Nearly $268 million in advertising revenue evaporated from the Times company last year, a 13 percent drop from 2007.

Still, the Times company remains in better shape than many of its rivals.

Several publishers, most notably Tribune Co., have sought bankruptcy protection in an attempt to restructure their debts. Others, like McClatchy Co., have laid off thousands of employees and slashed the wages of the workers still on the payroll. In the worst scenarios, some publishers are preparing to cease publication, following in the footsteps of the Rocky Mountain News in Denver.

"By raising more money like it has, The New York Times is able to say, `We are not in dire straits at this point,'" Novosel said.

To gain even more wiggle room, the Times company is still hoping to sell its 17.8 percent stake in a partnership that owns the Boston Red Sox. If that effort succeeds, the Times company could pocket another $150 million or so. But both Novosel and Simonton doubt a buyer will emerge soon because the recession is threatening to depress baseball's revenue, too.

If it needs even more cash, the Times company also could try to sell some of its other newspapers, which include The Boston Globe and 16 other daily publications. But newspaper buyers are scarce now.

Forum marketing has some tough competition now that social marketing such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace (just to name a few) is on a steady rise on the social networks.

I see so many promising networking possibilities on Twitter as I log in each day as much as time will allow me to. I also see my friends and forum owners state that the other social media...Facebook and MySpace are quite effective as well.

So...what is this doing to forum marketing?

Message board posting has resulted in some amazing success in the past and continues to do so. But I have seen first hand that some of the forums have indeed experienced a slow decline in activity. I also have seen forum members that have actually made the statement that the social networks are slowly taking over.

I personally feel that forum networking will continue to be an effective way to market your business but...it will take some hard work and consistency. And it is true...as a forum owner myself and from personal experience, the social networks are proving to be some controversial competition these days.

However, networking on forums will certainly NOT be effective if the member participates in the following manner.

* Sign up on a forum and immediately start making posts without making an introduction post

* Spam the boards with ads and leave

* Spam the members with ads via private message

* Don't participate in discussions and get to know the other members

* Continually answer numerous posts with just one word or two and not contribute any good-quality information. For example: Great post or I agree.

* Includes their website or affiliate links in their posts when not allowed to

* Ignore all community rules

* Make posts with foul language or posts with offensive content

I just don't get how some people believe that the above examples will yield them sales or website traffic. In fact...doing these very things in most cases, will get their account deleted and banned. Do they not realize this?

I do believe in not putting all your eggs into just one basket...meaning don't just use one form of advertising. Using the many promotion resources given to you and utilizing them properly will give you the desired results.

I was just reading on one of the forums and found this quote: "The forum market is pretty much over-saturated." I know this topic will and can be controversial...people have distinct opinions and they are entitled to have them.

Rio de Janeiro was Monday reveling in its famous Carnival parades, which this year were looking like a feverish, last bash before the sharp teeth of the global economic crisis really bite deep.

Topless Carnival queens, costumed dancers, huge thematic floats and thumping bands marched in the city's Sambodrome stadium overnight and were to return later Monday, wrapping up the two nights of spectacular processions.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was among the 70,000 people sitting in the venue on the first night, Sunday -- the first time he has attended the Rio shows since taking power in 2003.

He threw condoms to the crowd, echoing his government's program of distributing 59 million free prophylactics across Brazil during Carnival to combat the spread of HIV.

For locals and tourists alike, the parade extravaganza was an overwhelmingly festive occasion.

Many jigged in time to the music while holding cellphones and cameras to take pictures of the samba schools filing past in their annual competition, in which timing, props and harmony mattered more to judges than the toned bare flesh being exhibited.

"It's like being at a football game, only with naked ladies," chortled one Russian tourist, Alexandr Kugushev, 27, during Sunday night's show.

His wife Daria, also 27, chimed in with a more romantic take: "It's just grand, like a fairytale."

The over-the-top flow of feathers, drums, g-strings and four-storey-high mythological and historical figures came with a price, though.

Each of the entries cost an estimated two to three million dollars, and were months in preparation.

Financing traditionally comes from corporate sponsors, but that source was drying up under the pressures from the crisis.

Petrobras, Brazil's state-run oil group, cut back on the five million dollars it gave to the 12 Rio samba schools last year. Unilever, the consumer products multinational, also dropped its backing of one of the schools, Beija-Flor.

President Lula had his government step forward with three million dollars to help the schools pull through. And Rio municipal authorities were also providing aid.

But there were fears that next year's celebration would be more of a budget affair, dealing a blow to what Rio calls "the greatest show on Earth."

As Rosa Magalhaes, artistic director of the rival Imperatriz Leopoldinense samba school, put it: "I think the crisis will hit in 2010."

Foreign tourists, some of whom pay the samba schools for a costume to take part in the Carnival parades, were still out in force this year -- in part because the 30 percent fall of the Brazilian currency, the real, against the dollar in recent months has made Rio cheaper.

"Tonight, we're forgetting everything," said Fabrice Boursicault, a Frenchman participating in the parade with an inflatable Airbus plane as headwear.

"We've got to learn to live with the crisis, because it's going to be around for a while," he said.

Visitor numbers, especially from crisis-walloped Europe and the United States, were likely to drop at next year's Carnival.

Brazil, which had been relatively sheltered from the full brunt of the crisis, was also starting to suffer from the downturn.

Embraer, the country's aircraft maker, announced on Carnival's eve it was sacking more than 4,000 workers -- the biggest mass lay-off yet announced in Brazil.

General Motors Brazil and mining giant Vale have also cut jobs, by 800 and 1,300 respectively.

On top of that, industrial output is diving, exports are slowing and credit has become tougher to get.

All of that meant a post-Carnival hangover that many in Brazil fear could last a long time.

Microsoft follows Apple into the retail business

After years of brushing off the notion, Microsoft said on Thursday that it will open up its own line of retail stores.

Without detailing the plans, Microsoft said it has hired David Porter, a 25-year Wal-Mart veteran, to lead the effort. Sources say that Porter's mission will be to develop the company's retail plans and that the effort is likely to start small with just a few locations.

Porter, who will start next week, will report to Microsoft COO Kevin Turner, also a Wal-Mart veteran. Most recently, Porter was at DreamWorks Animation, heading that company's product distribution effort.

Although Microsoft has generally relied on others to sell its wares, it's not Microsoft's first foray into retail.

Back in the dot-com days, Microsoft had one retail outlet, at the San Francisco Metreon mall. However, it never expanded the effort and closed that location in November 2001.

Last fall, Microsoft built its own concept retail environment at its Redmond campus (seen in the video below). At the time, the company said the effort was aimed at showing retailers how they could better market Microsoft products and was not an indication that it was going into the retail business itself.

"We're not planning to open stores, but we need to learn more about stores," Microsoft general manager of worldwide retail services told the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. "We need to take more of a leadership role."

The company has also made a variety of moves to sell its products directly to customers over the Internet, including a recently opened online Microsoft Store. Starting last holiday season, it also started placing Microsoft workers as "gurus" inside other retail stores.

"There are tremendous opportunities ahead for Microsoft to create a world-class shopping experience for our customers," Porter said in a statement. "I am excited about helping consumers make more informed decisions about their PC and software purchases, and we'll share learnings from our stores with our existing retail and OEM partners that are critical to our success."

Rumors of Microsoft's interest in retail have cropped up at various times over the years, including in 2005, when the company was said to be interested in a Times Square location.

Apple began its retail push in 2001 and now has more than 200 locations in several countries. Microsoft's entry comes as Apple has started to slow its retail store expansion.

NPD Group analyst Stephen Baker, a computer industry retail veteran, thinks Microsoft's decision to open up its own retail stores is a relatively safe bet, but not without challenges.

"The real issue it that it's not as easy to pull off as Apple. Apple has more of an owned ecosystem than Microsoft has," Baker said, referring to the fact that Apple makes the finished products it sells, while Microsoft's software--particularly Windows--typically comes on hardware from dozens of companies. And the PC industry already has its own well-honed distribution channels to bring those products to market.

The upside for PC makers is that Microsoft-branded stores could display products that are hard to fit into the big-box retail shopping experience, like high-end Alienware PCs or HP's Home Server, Baker said.

"It doesn't have to be about sales. They are going to want to sell stuff, but it's going to be equal parts sales and branding," Baker said. For example, Apple's retail experience is as much about exposing you to the Apple brand and Apple family of products as it is moving widgets into and out of inventory. The same could be said for Sony's retail stores.

At the moment, Microsoft and its partners don't really have a one-stop shopping experience that can put all the pieces together the way Apple can in its stores, Baker said.

Baker said to expect Microsoft to start scouting locations in either hip downtown spots or newer "lifestyle center"-type retail environments.

Stimulus bill, foreclosure aid tops Obama agenda

WASHINGTON – Keeping the economy front and center, President Barack Obama heads west this week to sign the $787 billion stimulus bill and tackle the home mortgage foreclosure crisis. The direct appeals for public support follow scant GOP backing in Congress for his agenda and increasing partisan bickering.

Passage of the stimulus measure — unprecedented in its cost — was a major triumph for Obama as he struggles lift the country from a financial nosedive unseen since the Great Depression of the 1930s.

Top aides said Sunday the skyrocketing unemployment rate would fall once the money begins to flow. But they also said the economy will continue its downward spiral in the short term.

"I think it's safe to say that things have not yet bottomed out," press secretary Robert Gibbs said. "They are probably going to get worse before they improve. But this is a big step forward toward making that improvement and putting people back to work."

The stimulus package, which passed with no GOP support in the House and three Republican votes in the Senate, aims to save or create as many as 3.5 million jobs through massive government investment while boosting consumer spending through modest tax cuts.

The president's determination to sign the stimulus bill into law in Denver on Tuesday suggests Obama will continue taking his economic message to the American people, who are giving him high marks for handling the crisis. The symbolism is obvious for Colorado, where a growing green-energy industry will draw major benefits from the stimulus.

"He is determined to keep in touch with the American people who sent him here to do this job," senior adviser David Axelrod said.

Gibbs said the president had taken "unprecedented" steps in a bipartisan effort to include Republicans in the legislative process. But Sen. John McCain was highly critical, declaring the stimulus would create what he called "generational theft" — huge federal deficits for years to come.

McCain, who lost the presidential race to Obama, said the Democrat had backtracked on promises of bipartisanship and was off to a bad start. "Let's start over now and sit down together," McCain said.

Sen. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C., put it more bluntly: "If this is going to be bipartisanship, the country's screwed."

With the stimulus victory in hand, Obama planned to shift to the housing crisis with an announcement Wednesday in Phoenix about reversing that sector's collapse.

Late last summer, Americans began feeling the pinch of the recession and left the housing market in huge numbers. That coincided with a sharp increase defaults on home mortgages, a devastating combination that triggered the financial crisis. Lending froze as banks and investment houses realized they were holding trillions of dollars in bad assets.

Under an emergency $700 billion bailout program passed late last year, the Bush administration used half to forestall a financial collapse. But the flow of credit did not ease and use of the money was criticized because it was poorly administered and overseen.

Obama is now working to leverage the second portion of the bailout money into a program that could result in $2 trillion in government and private sector cash infusions to help banks and investment houses clear away "toxic" holdings and thereby spur lending.

As part of the next steps on the bailout, Obama was expected to offer help homeowners on the brink of foreclosure. Details have not been disclosed, but the nature of the crisis suggested mortgage loans would have to be revalued downward along with interest rates.

"We obviously have a major problem: problems with foreclosure, problems with people living on the edge and problems with home values around the country just plummeting, which is affecting family, family finances everywhere," Axelrod said. "We want to do something that will address all of those things."

On another troubled front, Axelrod said any plan to shore up the auto industry will require sacrifice by all involved, from auto workers and industry executives to shareholders and creditors.

General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC are expected to submit plans to the government by Tuesday, the deadline for showing how they can repay billions in loans and become viable in spite of a drop in auto sales not seen for a generation.

"We need an auto industry in this country. There are millions of lives, livelihoods that depend on it," Axelrod said. "We have a real interest in seeing the auto industry survive, but it's going to require a major restructuring of the auto industry."

_Gibbs said the administration wants to revise restrictions on executive compensation in the stimulus package even after it becomes law. The administration would seek to "strike the right balance" on the compensation question by discussing changes with House and Senate members, the spokesman said. Already Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and White House economic aide Lawrence Summers failed to stop the chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., from adding stricter limits on bankers' bonuses.

_Obama soon will issue an executive order lifting a ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research, Axelrod said. Under President George W. Bush, federal money for research on human embryonic stems cells was limited to those stem cell lines that were created before Aug. 9, 2001. Stem cells can revitalize diseased or debilitated human tissue.

_Axelrod defended Geithner, heavily criticized for offering scant details last week in outlining the administration's financial rescue plan. His performance led to a big Dow Jones sell-off. "We want to do this in a thoughtful way. He announced a strategy. He will unveil the tactics to support that strategy in the coming weeks. And we believe that he has the right approach."

_Axelrod sought to play down the about-face by Sen. Judd Gregg, R-N.H., who abruptly withdrew as Obama's nominee to head the Commerce Department after saying the fit wasn't right with this Democratic president. "I don't think that that ultimately is a reflection on the administration. It's a reflection on Sen. Gregg's change of heart," he said.

The perfect baby who died five days after she was born - poisoned by her mother's milk

As Natasha Clarke held her newborn baby for the first time she felt herself brimming with pride.

Ava, born a healthy 7lb 2oz, looked perfect and was the daughter the former Vogue model and singer had always wanted.

'She was just beautiful,' says Natasha.

Natasha's pregnancy had been normal, and the birth itself was straightforward. It was with huge happiness that she and Ava went home the day after the birth.

But already in those idyllic first hours a terrible story was unfolding.

Ava had been born with a genetic condition called methylmalonic acidaemia (MMA). This meant her body didn't produce an enzyme to break down protein.

In the womb, Natasha, 33, had been breaking the protein down for her.

But on her own, Ava's tiny body was unable to cope with any protein and even her own mother's milk was highly poisonous, leading to a build up of toxic substances, methylmalonic acid and ammonia. Untreated, it can lead to a coma, brain damage and death.

In America, newborns are routinely tested for this condition. There are no such tests in the UK and Natasha and her husband Grant, 37, were unaware of Ava's condition.

The first time they suspected something was wrong was when Ava was three days old and she stopped feeding properly. But reassured by the midwife that this was completely normal, they kept Ava at home.

But, by the next day, Natasha says maternal instinct - the couple already had a son, Harrison, then three - told her something was wrong and she arranged to see the midwife again.

'I told her Ava really hadn't fed very well. She would startle to loud sounds but she was not waking up. Her body felt a little bit rigid.

'I could see the midwife was slightly concerned and when she took Ava's temperature, it was only 35C, worryingly low. I realised then it was serious.'

Natasha immediately drove Ava to Frimley Park hospital, Surrey, where she was born. There, doctors carried out a series of tests.

'They put a needle into her and she didn't flinch,' recalls Natasha. 'Then they asked me if I was related to my husband - which of course I am not. I think they were trying to rule out a genetic abnormality. They then started treating her with intravenous antibiotics to try to get her temperature up.

'I sat there expressing milk for her because I thought she'd get better'. Little did she realise that her milk was toxic to her baby.

By then Ava's condition was deteriorating rapidly and it was clear she was gravely ill. 'When I asked the doctor: 'Is she going to die?' he told me: 'I hoped you wouldn't ask me that.' I couldn't speak.'

Ammonia levels in Ava's body were off the scale - a normal reading would be around 20, hers was more than 1,000 - a sign that her body was being poisoned by the by-products created by unbroken down protein.

Doctors desperately needed a drug to clean her blood and bring down the ammonia levels and, with the readings getting higher each time, every minute counted.

But a frantic attempt to find the medication needed in the local hospitals failed and Ava didn't receive the drugs until several hours later, when specialists from London's Evelina Children's Hospital arrived to transfer her to their unit.

'I am sure it would have saved her life if she'd had the drug earlier,' said Natasha.

When the drug didn't bring down her soaring ammonia levels doctors put a tube into Ava's stomach to try to flush the blood that way. But it was to no avail: a scan of Ava's brain showed it was no longer functioning.

And, just hours after she'd arrived in hospital, the doctors said they would have to turn off the life support machines.

'We asked them how long Ava would live without the machines, they said about an hour. But Ava stayed with us for another 12 hours until 6am the next day. She was only five days old.

'During those last hours she had her eyes closed most of the time.

Nurses brought us a camera so we could take photos, and we took a lock of her hair and did hand and footprints. Then, while I was holding her, she opened her eyes and had a really good look at me. Moments later she died.'

Ava suffered from the severest form of the condition. Had she survived, she would have been severely brain damaged because her ammonia levels reached such high levels.

'I would have taken that over a dead baby,' says Natasha quietly. 'It's your worst nightmare going through the birth, the joy of having a baby girl, going home with what you think is a healthy baby and then, days later, watching your baby die.

'I'd have traded every success I'd had in my life to have my daughter alive and healthy today.'

Ava's symptoms developed within days of birth. However, other children are often not diagnosed until they are two or even older. With careful management, including a strict low-protein diet people can live with MMA (kidney problems are common, and some need an organ transplant).

As Dr Mike Champion, a consultant in paediatric metabolic medicine at the Evelina Children's Hospital, explains: 'The earlier you make a diagnosis the more you can tailor the treatment to reverse the problem.'

After their baby's death the Clarkes faced another ordeal. MMA is caused by a defective gene passed on by both parents - though the chances of getting together with someone who has the same faulty genes to create a condition such as MMA is one in 50,000, Natasha and Grant's risk of another child with MMA are high, one in four.

One way of preventing this was to have IVF - doctors could have checked any embryos against Ava's DNA to see if they were affected before being put back into the womb.

But this option was not available - the biopsy taken from Ava after she died was contaminated.

So, when she became pregnant again, Natasha had to wait until she was 17 weeks pregnant before doctors were able to determine from blood tests whether the baby was affected.

'I kept telling myself if I could do it once with Harrison I could do it again. I knew that if the baby was affected this was treatable but, thankfully, it was good news - the baby was free of MMA.'

Austin is now 11 months old.

Following Ava's death on August 18, 2006, Natasha and Grant set up the Ava
Clarke Foundation in her memory to raise money for children affected by life-limiting inherited genetic disorders.

One in 800 babies is born with one of these conditions, which also cause 40 per cent of neonatal deaths.

The Clarkes are trying to raise money towards the cost of a new piece of equipment known as a tandem mass spectrometer (TMS) for the Children's Metabolic Unit at the Evelina Hospital.

These machines can identify rare metabolic conditions, but there are only a few in the UK.

The current TMS machine at the Evelina Children's Hospital has analysed nearly one million samples as well as helping with research. But the latest model, which the Clarkes are hoping to help fund, is more sensitive than previous models and will radically increase the range of genetic disorders that can be diagnosed from a single blood sample within 10 minutes.

'We want something positive to come from Ava's death,' says Natasha.

'And the Foundation will raise awareness of all types of genetic disorders as well as raising money for new equipment to help diagnose and treat children like Ava.

'I am so grateful to have two healthy boys but you never get over the death of a child. When you carry them for nine months, you are planning their future and thinking about their name and how they will fit into the family.

'On Ava's second birthday, I sang happy birthday to her picture. I will never watch my little girl go to school. Losing a child is like losing part of yourself. You learn to live with it but you never get over it.'
